Return of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen: a review of the first episodes of the series ” Daredevil: Born Again”

“Born Again” greets its viewer with a rather high threshold of entry. The series picks up right after the events of the third season of “Daredevil”, plunging audiences into an already familiar universe from the get-go. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), along with colleagues Foggy Nelson (Elden Hanson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Wall), are celebrating another successful case in a bar. Meanwhile, a brutal shootout in the city is set off by the villainous Swordman, a distraught ex-FBI agent named Benjamin Poindexter (Wilson Bethel). The target of Poindexter, who went off the rails, was Murdock’s best friend Foggy, whose life was cut short after a bullet fired by the killer. The loss of his mate was an irreparable loss for Matt. That’s why, having got to Swordsman and for the first time compromising his moral principles – Daredevil almost killed the villain by throwing him off a roof – Matt decides to give up the alter ego of the Twilight hero, concentrating on his career as a lawyer.

A year later, the psychic wound still hasn’t healed, Matt misses Foggy and blames himself for his death, though he tries to start a new life. However, the ghosts of the past won’t let go. Sirvigilova’s nemesis, criminal mastermind Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is running for mayor of New York City. One of the main initiatives of his programme is a total ban on the People’s Avengers – Echoes of the “Zakovian Pact”, which first appeared within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Age of Altron.

In the mid-2010s, Daredevil became Marvel’s first project under the Netflix umbrella. The show about the devil of Hell’s Kitchen served as the launch for a serial universe that also included “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” “The Punisher” and the “Defenders” crossover that brought all the shows together. “Daredevil” “from the get-go announced itself as the ideological heir to Nolan’s” Dark Knight” – a gritty, down-to-earth superheroics. However, after the third season, the show was shut down. The Marvel Television division was abolished and Disney launched its own streaming platform. As with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, fans are the ones to thank for the sequel to Daredevil. For several years, fans of the original series collected petitions, bought advertising banners in Times Square and organised full flash mobs in social networks in support of the series.

The efforts did not go unnoticed. In 2019, the first news appeared that Charlie Cox will retain the role of Matt Murdock and will again wear a red suit, but already within the main Marvel universe. The producers were smoothly preparing the audience for the introduction of old-new characters. Wilson Fisk appeared in the Falcon Eye and Echo series, and Matt Murdock himself had time to appear as Peter Parker’s lawyer
