The Russian Ministry of Justice has added the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, registered in Poland, to the list of foreign and international organisations whose activities have been declared “undesirable”.
Earlier, the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office declared the Zimin Foundation, the foundation of businessman and philanthropist Boris Zimin, an “undesirable” organisation. The supervisory body explained this decision by the fact that “along with the stated goals of supporting science and education, the foundation provides financial and informational assistance to individuals and organisations involved in extremist activity and terrorism, foreign agents”. From February to March 2025, the Ziminykh Foundation allocated more than 30 subsidies for the implementation of “projects of journalists and scientists hostile to Russia,” the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office said.
Also in the list of “undesirable” the Russian authorities included the German “Rosa Luxemburg Foundation” (Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung Gesellschaftsanalyse und politische Bildung), which allegedly aims” to form protest sentiments and radicalisation of youth, discredit the Russian government”, and also distributes materials” foreign agents “and other” undesirable organisations”, the Konrad Adenauer and Heinrich Böll foundations, the WOT Foundation and many other organisations. Among them are the publications “project”, “important stories”, “Meduza”, “Dozhd”, The Insider, Radio Liberty and others.
