Russia’s Saratov oil refinery, owned by Rosneft, has stopped receiving oil after a drone attack on Sunday, Bloomberg reported, citing a person with knowledge of the matter.
The refinery is the third to be hit by drone strikes this month.
The Saratov refinery, located in the Volga region, has a design capacity of about 140,000 barrels of oil per day. As Bloomberg notes, its prolonged shutdown could affect domestic petrol supplies at a time when fuel demand is showing seasonal growth. Rosneft’s press office did not respond to Bloomberg’s request for comment.
According to Russian media reports, a group of drones attacked an oil refinery in the Russian city of Saratov on the night of 10 August .
The governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin, said that Ukrainian drones attacked Saratov on Sunday night and “there is damage at one of the industrial enterprises.”
The AFU General Staff later confirmed that the Ukrainian military had struck the Saratov oil refinery, adding that the facility was “one of the key fuel infrastructure facilities of the Russian Federation involved in supplying the occupation forces with oil products.”
Since the beginning of 2024, Russian refineries have been regularly attacked by Ukrainian drones. At some refineries, primary oil refining units have failed and required repairs.
The AFU General Staff from time to time confirms strikes on facilities in the Russian Federation involved in supplying the Russian army and notes that such strikes will continue.
