On 20 August, the Perovsky District Court of Moscow arrested in absentia Yulia Taratuta, a presenter of the Dozhd TV channel. She is accused in a criminal case of failing to fulfil the duties of a “foreign agent”.
The Russian Ministry of Justice recognised Taratuta as a “foreign agent” in December 2022. The journalist, who does not live in Russia, has since been brought to administrative responsibility twice for violating the regime of “foreign agent” activities by failing to submit reports required by Russian law. This was the reason for the initiation of a criminal case. In May 2025, the Russian Interior Ministry declared the journalist wanted.
Criminal proceedings have been brought against dozens of people recognised as “foreign agents” in Russia for failure to fulfil their duties.
