Russian Federation’s Burevestnik test: Trump advised Putin to ‘end the war’ instead of testing missiles

United States President Donald Trump on 27 October commented on Vladimir Putin’s statements about the Burevestnik missile test.

“They know we have a nuclear submarine, the biggest in the world, right off their shore,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One during a trip to Asia.

Trump said the U.S. also “tests missiles all the time” and doesn’t need an 8,000-mile range.

He also expressed doubt that it was “appropriate” for the Russian president to make such statements.

“He should be ending a war, a war that is supposed to last one week and is now going into its fourth year, that’s what he should be doing instead of testing missiles,” the US president added.

Asked whether Washington plans to impose new sanctions, Trump said, “You’ll see.”

On the eve, Putin visited one of the control points of the United Group of Forces, where he was briefed on the results of combat operations and tests of modern weapons.

Before that, Russian General Staff Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov said that on 21 October they conducted a test of a nuclear-powered cruise missile called Burevestnik. According to the Russian General Staff, during the test the missile allegedly “flew about 14,000 kilometres”; the agency stressed that this was “not the limit of its capabilities”.
