Polish security services speaker: two Ukrainians detained on suspicion of “intelligence activities”

Two people from Ukraine have been detained in Poland, the spokesman for the coordinator of the Polish security services, Jacek Dobrzynski, said on 27 October.

According to him, it is a 34-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man who were detained in the southern Polish city of Katowice.

Dobrzynski specified that officers of the Military Counterintelligence Service and the Internal Security Agency detained the Ukrainians who “carried out activities for foreign intelligence”. In particular, they researched Poland’s military potential and installed devices for covert monitoring of critical infrastructure.

“The information they collected concerned soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces and critical infrastructure located in Poland, in particular transport infrastructure providing logistical and military support to Ukraine,” said Dobrzynski.

The representative of the special services did not specify which country the detainees probably worked for. The court sent the detainees in custody for three months.

Recently, the Polish prosecutor’s office said that a Ukrainian citizen faces life imprisonment for spying in favour of Russia.

Before that, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the detention of eight people on suspicion of preparing sabotage. According to media reports, one of the detainees-21-year-old Ukrainian citizen Daniel (Danylo H.). He is suspected of intelligence activities in Poland and Romania and co-operation with the Russian security services.
