Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Department of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, was killed in a car bombing on Yaseneva Street in Moscow, the Russian Investigative Committee has reported.
According to the report, an explosive device placed under the bottom of the car was detonated. According to the Baza telegram channel, the car managed to drive a few metres before the explosion occurred.
At least seven vehicles parked nearby were damaged by shrapnel.
Fanil Sarvarov, 56, took part in combat operations in Chechnya, Syria and Ukraine.
The Russian Investigative Committee said that one of the versions of what happened was “the organisation of the crime by Ukrainian special services”.
The Ukrainian side has not yet commented on the death of the Russian general.
