Ryanair airline switches to 100 per cent digital boarding passes

Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair has stopped accepting printed boarding passes: a digital pass in the myRyanair app is required for boarding, the airline said. Online check-in is possible on the website and in the app, after which the boarding pass is automatically generated in myRyanair. According to the carrier, the share of passengers with mobile boarding passes previously exceeded 80 per cent.

The company attributes the move to a desire to speed up boarding and reduce costs. The help page notes that Ryanair is “transitioning to 100% Digital Boarding Passes from 12 November 2025” and paper boarding passes will no longer be issued. Localised exceptions may apply at individual airports, a list of which the company publishes in its explanations.

A number of European publications specify that passengers without a smartphone or without access to the app at the airport will be able to issue a paper boarding pass after online check-in, while some national regulators remind of the need to respect passengers’ rights when introducing the digital format.
