Six Russian tourists killed in Egypt due to accident of recreational bathyscaphe

At least six Russian tourists died on 27 March due to the accident of a recreational bathyscaphe off the coast of the Egyptian resort of Hurghada, the Consulate General of Russia said.

According to Russian diplomats, the bathyscaphe “Sinbad”, which belonged to the hotel of the same name, was on a regular underwater excursion to see the coral reef on the morning of 27 March. Apart from the crew members, there were 45 Russian tourists on board.

The accident of the bathyscaphe occurred one kilometre from the shore. What caused it is not specified.

According to preliminary data, most of those on board have been rescued and taken to their hotels and hospitals in Hurghada.
