On this day believers bring crops of nuts for the priest to consecrate them after the service. The people call this holiday the Nut Saviour. Read the prayers that are worth saying on this day.
Prayers for the Nut Saviour
Prayer of invocation to the Uncarpentered Image of Jesus Christ
O Blessed Lord Jesus Christ our God!
Thou didst wash Thy face with the Most Holy water and wiped it with a cloth, and on the same cloth Thou didst depict the miraculous on the same cloth, and didst have the goodness to send it to Prince Abgar of Edessa for the cure of his illness. And now we sinful servants of Thee, who are beset with infirmities of soul and body, seek Thy face, O Lord, and with David in the humility of our souls we cry out, “Do not turn Thy face away from us, and do not turn away wrath from Thy servants, be our helper, do not cast us away, and do not forgive us.
O Merciful Lord, our Saviour! Imagine Thyself in our souls, that in holiness and righteousness Thou wilt make us Thy sons and heiresses of Thy kingdom, and so to Thee, O Most Merciful God, our God, together with Thy eternal Father and the Most Holy Spirit, we will never cease to glorify forever and ever.
Amen.
Prayer for blessing and forgiveness of sins
O Holy Lord, who dwells in the highest, and with your all-seeing eye beholds all creation. We pray to you, O Holy of Holies, extend your invisible hand and bless us all, and forgive us every sin, whether it is voluntary or involuntary, whether in word or deed.
Grant us, O Lord, propitiation, grant us tears of humility of soul for the cleansing of our many sins, grant Thy will of mercy to Thy world and to us, Thy unworthy servants, for blessed and glorified is Thy name now, and ever, and unto ages of ages.
Amen.
Prayer to the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord
Protect me, O Lord, by the power of Your Honourable and Life-Creating Cross, and keep me from all evil. Forgive, forgive, forgive, O God, our sins, free and unfree as in word and deed, as in conduct and not in conduct, as in day and in night, as in mind and in thought: forgive us all, as good and mankind-loving.
Those who hate and insult us, forgive us, O Lord, O God of Man. To our benefactors. Grant to our brothers and relatives the same salvation and eternal life. Visit and heal the weak in your body. To those who exist on the sea, give them guidance.
Remember, O Lord, us, humble and sinful, and unworthy servants of Thee, and enlighten our minds with the light of Thy reason, and guide us in the path of Thy commandments, through the prayers of Our Most Pure Lady, the Theotokos and Mary, and all Thy saints: blessed art Thou for ever and ever.
Amen.
Prayer for the Saviour of the Unsaved.
O Blessed Lord Jesus Christ our God!
Thou hast washed Thy face with the Most Holy water and wiped it with a cloth, and hast wiped it with a miraculous image on the same cloth, and hast favoured to send it to the prince of Edessa for the cure of his illness. And now we sinful servants of Thee, who are beset with infirmities of soul and body, seek Thy face, O Lord, and with David in the humility of our souls we cry out, “Do not turn Thy face away from us, nor turn away wrath from Thy servants, be our helper, do not cast us away or forsake us.
O Merciful Lord, our Saviour! Imagine Thyself in our souls, so in holiness and righteousness Thou art living, we shall be Thy sons and heirs of Thy kingdom, and so to Thee, O Most Gracious God, our God, together with Thy eternal Father and the Most Holy Spirit, we will never cease to glorify forever and ever.
Amen.
