A horrific incident has taken place in the Pakistani city of Kohat, shocking the entire country. On the afternoon of 19 September, an attack accompanied by an explosion was carried out on a police compound located in the Old Police Lines area. The scale of the tragedy is staggering: according to the latest figures, at least 31 people have been killed, including 16 law enforcement officers. The number of injured has exceeded one hundred, and many of them are in a critical condition.
Kohat, with a population of around 220,000, is situated in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a region that has long been at the centre of tensions due to its proximity to the Afghan border. The police complex that was targeted was not merely a workplace for a thousand officers, but also an important strategic facility. It housed the district police headquarters, the offices of the Counter-Terrorism Department and other key units, making the attack particularly brazen and meticulously planned.
According to police sources, several militants are still inside the complex, in the Special Branch offices. A firefight with them is ongoing, posing further threats and dangers. Exactly how many attackers are involved in the assault remains unknown, which only adds to the anxiety and tension of the situation. The authorities are doing everything possible to neutralise the criminals as quickly as possible and restore order.
This attack once again highlights the importance of the fight against terrorism for Pakistan, particularly in unstable regions such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
