The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the full list of nominees for the 98th Academy Awards, the world’s premier film industry honour. The awards ceremony will take place on the night of 15-16 March, Kiev time, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
“This year’s nominations demonstrate the extraordinary diversity of contemporary cinema – from large-scale studio projects to author’s tapes, forming a new language of world cinema,” – noted in the message of the Academy.
In Ukraine, the broadcast of the ceremony will be commented by theatre and film actor and director Alexey Gnatkovsky, who will also host a special pre-show before the awards.

At the same time, a special selection of films related to the current Oscars has appeared on the streaming platform Netflix, so viewers can preview some of the tapes and prepare for the main film event of the year.
This year’s Best Film category features ten tapes of different genres – from historical dramas to big Hollywood productions.
“One Battle After Another” (One Battle After Another) is a new film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, which tells the story of a group of people involved in political conflicts and social transformations. The film explores how personal decisions can change the course of history.
“The Secret Agent” (The Secret Agent) is a dramatic thriller by Brazilian director Kleber Mendonça Filho, based on the classic novel by Joseph Conrad. The film is about espionage, political intrigue and moral dilemmas in the world of covert operations.
“Sentimental Value” (Sentimental Value) is an auteur family drama from Norwegian director Joakim Trier that explores the complex relationships between generations, memory and the emotional legacy people pass on to each other.
“Sinners” (Sinners) is a dramatic story by director Ryan Coogler about the struggle with inner demons, guilt and attempts at redemption in contemporary American society.
“Train Dreams is a poetic adaptation of Denis Johnson’s novel of the same name. The film takes the viewer to the early twentieth century and tells the story of a simple worker whose life takes place against the backdrop of changes in nature and society.
“Bugonia” (Bugonia) is a sci-fi comedy drama directed by Yorgos Lanthimos that explores the line between reality and absurdity through a story of conspiracy and wacky theories about the alien origin of mankind.
“Frankenstein” (Frankenstein) – A new gothic adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel from director Guillermo del Toro that reimagines the legendary story of the creation of life and man’s moral responsibility to his creation.
“F1: The Movie”(F1: The Movie) is a sweeping sports drama about the world of Formula One that follows a legendary race car driver who returns to the sport and becomes a mentor to a young driver.
“Hamnet” (Hamnet) is a historical drama directed by Chloe Zhao, based on Maggie O’Farrell’s novel about William Shakespeare’s family and the tragedy of losing his son, which influenced the creation of the play “Hamlet.”
“Marty Supreme: Genius of Combinations” (Marty Supreme) is a sports drama about a legendary table tennis player who overcomes personal and professional challenges to return to the top of the world sport.
This year’s Best Actor category features five international film stars who have created some of the most striking male roles of the year, from psychological dramas to sweeping Hollywood productions. The list includes both legends of modern cinema and representatives of the new generation of actors who are now shaping the face of Hollywood.
Leonardo DiCaprio – “One Battle After Another” (One Battle After Another) – in the new film directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the actor played a hero involved in complex political events. DiCaprio has long been among the most influential actors in modern Hollywood and has dozens of iconic roles to his credit.
Timothee Chalamet – “Marty Supreme. Genius combinations” (Marty Supreme) – the actor embodied the image of a charismatic champion of table tennis, who is trying to return to the top of the big sport. Shalame for several years is considered one of the brightest representatives of the new generation of Hollywood actors and regularly appears in large-scale international projects.
Ethan Hawke – “Blue Moon” (Blue Moon) – in the film the actor creates a deep psychological portrait of a man who is going through a crisis and rethinks his own life. Hawke is known for his roles in auteur and intellectual cinema.
Michael B. Jordan – “Sinners” (Sinners) – the actor played the role of a complex character struggling with his past and trying to find a way to inner purification.
Wagner Moura – “The Secret Agent” (The Secret Agent) – Brazilian actor, known to a wide audience for his role as Pablo Escobar in the series Narcos, in the new film played a character involved in a dangerous game of espionage and political games.
