The Russian frigate *Admiral Grigorovich* fired a warning shot at a civilian yacht flying the British flag, which had approached it to within approximately 500 metres in the English Channel.
According to the British Press Association, the incident took place around midday between the Isle of Wight, which belongs to the UK, and the Normandy coast.
It is unclear who owns the yacht or why it approached the ship. No one was injured during the incident. The UK Ministry of Defence stated that it is ‘investigating’ the incident. There has been no comment on the incident from Russia.
On 14 June, the UK intercepted the tanker ‘Smirtos’, which is suspected of belonging to Russia’s shadow fleet. The ship’s captain has been formally charged with circumventing sanctions. This is the first time since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war that the UK has intercepted a tanker linked to Russia.
