During a recent session of the UN General Assembly in New York, US President Donald Trump made a high-profile statement, assuring the international community that the United States possesses vast stocks of ammunition and continues to actively ramp up its production. These remarks were made in response to criticism regarding a shortage of certain types of weaponry, in particular missile systems.
Trump, known for his flamboyant style and penchant for blunt statements, emphasised that rumours of an ammunition shortage in the US are unfounded. He assured that America is currently producing more weapons than ever before, and that this will soon enable it to supply arms to its allies much more quickly.
The President also noted that major US defence companies are building 18 new munitions factories, some of which are already in the final stages of construction. According to Trump, this will speed up the production of missiles and ammunition and enable partner countries to be supported more promptly.
The White House chief’s statement has attracted attention against the backdrop of current global challenges, including the shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles, which are desperately needed by Ukraine. This aspect reinforces the significance of Trump’s remarks, drawing attention to the US’s strategic role in ensuring the security of its allies.
