Trump commented on talks with Ukraine and Russia

US President Donald Trump says talks to end Russia’s war on Ukraine are going “well”.

“There is a tremendous amount of hatred between these two leaders, Putin and Zelensky… We’re talking. Everything is going well… everyone is tired of this war. It’s got to stop,” Trump said, without going into details, while speaking to reporters in Palm Beach, Florida, on 22 December.

In recent weeks, the U.S. has been trying again to reach a peace deal between Moscow and Kiev. The week-long talks have produced a document that is more acceptable to Kiev, but there are several contentious issues, particularly over territory and security guarantees.

On 14 and 15 December, the Ukrainian delegation headed by the Ukrainian president continued negotiations in Germany with the special representative of the United States President Steve Whitkoff and the son-in-law of US President Jared Kushner.

In Miami (Florida, USA) on 19-21 December, the Ukrainian and US delegations held a number of meetings on Trump’s peace plan. The US side also met with representatives of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, there were no visible signs of progress either in the negotiations between the US and Russia or in the meetings between the US and Ukraine. No new upcoming meetings were announced.
