US President Donald Trump, in an interview with NBC News distributed on 30 March, did not rule out that he would run for a third presidential term. According to him, there are “methods” to do so.
” A lot of people want me to do it,” Trump said, adding that he” is focused on the current moment “and it’s too early to think about it.”
Trump was asked about a possible scenario in which Vice President J.D. Vance would run for office and then hand over power to Trump. The American leader responded that this is one option.
Formally running any politician for a third presidential term in the United States requires a change in American law. Two-thirds of Congress must vote for it (Republicans now have a slight majority in both chambers, but they lack very many seats to two-thirds). The other path would require the support of two-thirds of the US states to call a constitutional convention.
Both paths would also require three-quarters of the US states to ratify the changes.
