Trump marked 100 days in office with a speech at a rally in Michigan

US President Donald Trump addressed his supporters at a rally in Michigan to mark 100 days in office, saying it had been “the most successful first 100 days of any administration in the history of our country” and that it was just the beginning of his administration.

“We had the greatest economy in the history of our country,” Trump said of his first presidency from 2017 to 2021. – We did a great job, and we’re doing better now.”

Trump also said his moves to impose tariffs on US trading partners could lead to a resurgence in domestic manufacturing.

The US president also highlighted his administration’s efforts to crack down on illegal immigration. A video of deported migrants was shown during his speech.

“Expelling invaders is not just a campaign promise,” Trump said in his 90-minute speech. – It is my solemn duty as commander in chief. I have a duty to save our country.

Western agencies, meanwhile, recall polls that have shown that Americans are increasingly sceptical of Trump’s tough approaches on trade and immigration.

Specifically, a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Sunday found that 42% of respondents approve of Trump’s performance so far, while 53% disapprove. That’s down from 47% approval in a Reuters/Ipsos poll in January.

Meanwhile, only 36% of respondents approve of Trump’s economic actions, the lowest level during his current or previous term, Reuters notes.

AP points out that 46% of U.S. adults approve of Trump’s immigration policies, with about half of Americans saying he has “gone too far” when it comes to deporting immigrants living in the country illegally.
