US imposes sanctions on Russia’s Aeza Group for “role in supporting cybercrime activities”

The United States has imposed sanctions against Russian IT company Aeza Group and its executives, the US Treasury Department said. The agency said that the restrictions were imposed for the organisation’s role “in supporting cybercriminal activities targeting victims in the United States and around the world”.

The report said the company sells access to specialised servers and other computer infrastructure designed to help cybercriminals avoid detection.

Sanctions have been imposed against the company’s founder Arseny Penzev, CEO Yuri Bozoyan, technical director Vladimir Gast and co-owner Igor Knyazev.

Restrictions were also imposed against the British branch of Aeza International and two subsidiaries in Russia – Aeza Logistic LLC and Cloud Solutions LLC.

In April, a court in Moscow arrested Yuri Bozoyan and several other employees of the company on suspicion of creating a criminal association, participation in it and other offences. At the same time, Arseny Penzev was arrested and charged with aiding and abetting participation in a criminal association and attempting to sell drugs.
