US President Donald Trump has reacted to the death of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, who had long been one of his closest political allies.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said that Graham was “one of the most outstanding people and senators” he had ever known. According to the US President, the senator had worked for the good of the country throughout his life and was “a true American patriot”. Trump emphasised that he and many others would miss Graham.
The US President also announced that details of the senator’s funeral and burial would be released at a later date.
“It is very sad,” Trump concluded.
US Senator Lindsey Graham, one of the Republican Party’s most influential voices on US foreign policy and one of Ukraine’s strongest supporters in Washington, died on 11 July following a “brief and sudden illness”, according to a statement from his office. He was 71.
