White House to host talks between Israel and Lebanon

Talks between Israel and Lebanon will take place at the White House, an unnamed United States official told US media.

“Ambassador-level talks between Israel and Lebanon will now take place at the White House. President Trump will congratulate both representatives upon arrival,” the official said.

The meeting was initially expected to take place at the US State Department. The first round of talks took place on 14 April.

Fighting between Israel and Hezbollah resumed in early March. A US-brokered ceasefire went into effect on 16 April, but both sides accused each other of violations.

Lebanon and Israel have remained formally at war since Lebanon joined the 1948-49 Arab-Israeli conflict following the creation of Israel, although hostilities have only flared up intermittently since then.
