Zelensky: Ukraine to order 100 French Rafale fighters

Ukraine will order 100 French Rafale fighter jets to equip its army, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told the LCI TV channel immediately after signing the agreement at the Villacoublay airbase.

He did not give any other details.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and French President Emmanuel Macron today signed a declaration of intent on Ukraine’s acquisition of defence equipment. According to media reports, the agreement provides for the supply of air defence equipment, military aircraft and missiles. In particular, the document reportedly refers to the provision of Rafale multi-role fighter jets, as well as likely more SAMP/T air defence systems for Ukraine.

The day before, Zelensky announced a “historic agreement” with France in an evening address. He said it would be a significant boost to combat aviation and Ukrainian defence capabilities.

This is Zelensky’s ninth visit to France since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
