Anne Frank was a German girl and Jewish Holocaust victim, her family went into hiding for two years to escape Nazi persecution. She is known for keeping a diary of her experiences. The entries about this time were published in the book “Diary of a Girl”.
One of the world’s most famous Jewish teenage girl Anne Frank was born on 12 June 1929 in the city of Frankfurt am Main. This girl had to live a short life, already in 1945 she died in the death camp Bergen-Belsen. However, during her short life Anne Frank saw and experienced a lot.
Interesting facts about Anne Frank
1. The Franks belonged to liberal Jews and did not follow the traditions and customs of Judaism. They lived in an assimilated community of Jewish and non-Jewish citizens where their children grew up with Catholics, Protestants.
2.For her 13th birthday, Anna received a gift – a scrapbook. She begins to keep a diary. For two years she writes down all the events that take place in the vault, and also her feelings and thoughts. She composes short stories, tries to write a novel and writes out quotes from books she likes. This diary helps her endure so much time in the vault.
3- Anna, her sister Margot, mother Edith and father Otto had been in hiding from the Nazis since 6 July 1942. They were soon joined by four other Jews. The girl concentrated on her studies during this time: she studied European history and literature.
4. On 4 August 1944, the house where the Frank family was hiding was searched by the Dutch police and the Gestapo. Behind a bookcase they found the door where the illegals had been hiding for 25 months. All eight men were held for four days in the Wetteringshans Street prison and then placed in the Westerbork transit concentration camp.
5.The only surviving family member in the Nazi camps was Anne’s father Otto Frank. He returned to Amsterdam after the war and moved to Basel, Switzerland in 1953.
6. On 25 June 1947, the book “Asylum” is published in 3,000 copies. The book became instantly popular, it was translated into 70 languages, films and TV series were made based on it.
7. The house in which the Franks were hiding in Amsterdam later attracts a large audience. Today, it is known as the Anne Frank House. In 2017, more than 1.2 million people visited it.
