The author of the Phone Repair Guru YouTube channel took apart the new iPhone 16E and checked it for compatibility with components from other models. In addition, he managed to fix one of the hardware flaws of the most affordable Apple smartphone of the last generation.
The blogger found that the iPhone 16E is compatible with the iPhone 14’s Taptic Engine, iPhone 15’s speaker, iPhone 14’s SIM card reader, iPhone 14’s induction coil, iPhone 14 and 15’s wireless charging coils, and iPhone 14’s screen.
At the same time, the enthusiast’s goal was to check whether it is possible to implement in the iPhone 16E support for MagSafe magnetic charging. Recall that Apple considered this feature unnecessary for most potential users of the smartphone.
The iPhone 16E itself supports wireless charging, but there are no magnets inside the case for attaching MagSafe chargers. The author of the video solved this problem in literally seconds by sticking a spare magnetic ring on the inside of the back cover.
The blogger was concerned that the extra element might cause the back cover to not stay in place or protrude. But after assembly, he didn’t notice any flaws in the design, and the problems were able to connect the MagSafe charger, which is securely attached to the smartphone. True, the branded MagSafe animation does not work in this case.
As a result, the blogger proved that there were no hardware limitations to implement in the iPhone 16E support for MagSafe-charging.
