Amazon.com Inc.’s cloud division is set to expand the hardware in its data centres with Nvidia Corp. graphics processing units (GPUs) over the next two years, under a new agreement announced by the companies on Wednesday.
As stated in Nvidia’s press release, in 2027 and 2028 Amazon will deploy around 2 million of the company’s high-performance chips, designed to train and support artificial intelligence models on the global Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure.
These will complement a preliminary agreement between the companies signed in March, which provides for the installation of 1 million Nvidia chips in AWS data centres.
Under the new deal, AWS will receive Blackwell Ultra, Rubin and Rubin Ultra chips. These cost at least tens of thousands of dollars each, although major clients traditionally receive discounts, notes Bloomberg.
Nvidia and Amazon have not disclosed the value of the deal.
