Canadian tourists reduced trips to the United States by almost 19% in the first half of 2025, writes CNBC with reference to data from the US Travel Association (US Travel Association).
The organisation reported that this led to a drop in spending by travellers by about $1.9 billion. A particularly noticeable decline in tourist traffic from Canada was observed in June – by more than 26%.
Meanwhile, the number of Mexican tourists to the U.S. increased by 12.5% year-over-year in the first half of the year, particularly in June – by 14.8%, bringing the U.S. economy an additional nearly $500 million.
The cumulative number of international tourists visiting the States in January-June fell 3.4 per cent.
“General economic concerns continue to affect consumer sentiment,” the organisation said in its report. – In a rapidly changing global environment, international visits to the U.S. remain robust in most countries with the exception of Canada.”
At the same time, industry experts have expressed concern about rising visa fees, which could exacerbate the travel sector, especially in the run-up to the 2026 World Cup.
