Eight people were detained in Poland on suspicion of preparing sabotage, including a Ukrainian citizen

Eight people have been detained in Poland on suspicion of preparing sabotage, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said. According to him, they were detained in different parts of the country.

Tomasz Semoniak, Poland’s minister-coordinator of special services, said that “the issues the prime minister writes about are related to the reconnaissance of military facilities and critical infrastructure, preparation of resources for sabotage and directly carrying out attacks.”

The publication Rzeczpospolita writes that one of the detainees is 21-year-old Ukrainian citizen Danylo H.. He is suspected of intelligence activities in Poland and Romania and co-operation with Russian intelligence services.

In Romania, according to the newspaper, two other Ukrainian citizens were detained, who may be accomplices of the Ukrainian detained in Poland. According to Romanian intelligence, they planned to set fire to the office of the Ukrainian “Novaya Posta” in Bucharest: in mid-October, they delivered two parcels to the company containing incendiary devices with remote detonation hidden in headphones and car parts. The devices managed to be defused before activation.

This is not the first time people have been detained in Poland on charges of committing sabotage ordered by Russian intelligence services. In August 2025, the Polish prosecutor’s office accused three Polish citizens and three citizens of Belarus of committing sabotage on the territory of the country, participation in a criminal group, illegal trafficking in weapons and drug trafficking. Prior to that, a court in Poland sentenced Ukrainian citizen Serhiy S. to three years in prison in the case of preparing sabotage. According to Wyborcza, he confessed to the intention to set fire to a paint factory in Wrocław and agreed to a deal with the investigation. He was recruited via telegrams.
