German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius arrived in Kiev on 12 June to discuss military support for Ukraine in its war with Russia, the dpa news agency has reported.
According to the report, Pistorius plans to hold talks with representatives of the Ukrainian authorities on further arms assistance from Berlin.
Upon his arrival in Kiev, the German minister condemned recent Russian airstrikes on Ukraine and said that they showed Moscow’s disinterest in a peaceful settlement.
The German government and Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on Pistorius’ visit.
Germany is the second-largest supplier of military aid to Ukraine after the United States. Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, along with his British counterpart John Gili, has taken a leading role in military aid to Ukraine amid uncertainty over US support.
Earlier this month, Pistorius said Germany wants to help Ukraine end the war, but peace cannot be achieved at any price.
