American supermodel Gigi Hadid is the star of WSJ Magazine’s latest cover and photo shoot.
In front of Sylvester Mako’s lens, she modelled outfits from renowned fashion houses, including Schiaparelli, Balenciaga, Georges Hobeika and ABODI Transylvania.

Gabriella Carefa-Johnson was responsible for the styling of the shoot. She put together looks featuring striking silhouettes and unusual details, blending them with the aesthetics of haute couture. At the same time, the stylist wanted to show that couture does not necessarily have to be excessive or complicated.

On social media, Karefa-Johnson explained that she wanted to take a fresh look at the story told by haute couture. In her words, she does not always need complex shapes and elaborate details: sometimes its power lies in simplicity and naturalness.

For the photoshoot, Gigi modelled sculptural dresses with voluminous silhouettes, designs featuring unusual geometric shapes, and outfits adorned with feathers. Some silhouettes alter the body’s usual proportions, making the clothing the focal point of every shot.

Sylvestre Mako was responsible for the photography and art direction. Thanks to the artificially aged walls, drapery and theatrical sets, the shoot resembles a series of painterly portraits.
WSJ Magazine’s new photo shoot demonstrates how haute couture can combine expressiveness with effortless ease.
