Google Messages stops working on Pixel and Samsung due to a bug in the beta version

The Google Messages beta version with the number 20250610_00_rc02.phone.openbeta_dynamic has a serious glitch that affects the stability of the app on Pixel and Samsung devices. In particular, the issue affects the message forwarding function and can cause the app to crash completely.

To check if this particular version of Google Messages is installed on your device, open Settings > Apps > View all apps, search for “messages” and scroll down to the bottom of the app’s information page – the version will be listed there.

In my case, this version was installed on the Pixel 6 Pro. If you also have this particular version active, you might have encountered a bug that completely blocks the forward button from working. It looks like a circle with two arrows pointing to the right. Tapping this button should open the contact list to share text or images, but instead the app crashes.

Google Messages bug causes the app to crash when you tap the new “Go” button above the green arrow.

In addition, Google Messages also crashes when you try to share via the Android system menu from other apps. For example, when you try to share a link from the Chrome browser via the “messages” option, the app also crashes.

Temporary fix: until Google releases an update with a fix, it’s recommended to manually copy the text or link, and for images, save them locally and share via the gallery in chat.

If you don’t want to wait, you can exit the Google Messages beta app – to do so, follow the appropriate link and click “quit app”. After that, install the stable version from the Play Store by following this link.

It’s worth noting that Google is also working on an updated Material 3 Expressive-style settings design – with modern toggles and a revamped look for sections. But this change is not yet publicly available and, for example, has yet to appear on the Pixel 6 Pro with Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.
