Billionaire billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and honorary chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party, has published a statement dedicated to the 13th anniversary of his party’s victory in the parliamentary elections. He calls October 1, 2012 a turning point in the history of independent Georgia, criticises the opposition and “internal traitors”, speaks of pressure from outside, praises the achievements of his team and calls for the October 4 local elections to confirm the choice in favour of the incumbent government.
“In the upcoming local elections, internal and external enemies with their masks pulled off see another opportunity to wreak havoc, stage a coup d’état and pursue their own goals… today we have an opportunity to finally and peacefully consolidate the victory gained in 2012, turn radicalism and mutual clashes into the past, and then fight for development and prosperity, the final overcoming of poverty, strengthening of sovereignty and peaceful unification of the country!” said Ivanishvili.
He admitted that “there have been mistakes in the past 13 years, but not of such a scale to jeopardise the statehood or physical existence of the country.”
“We have exposed all the traitors and forced the internal enemies to recognise that their actions are dictated not by national, but by external interests,” said the politician, who is called the informal head of Georgia.
Ivanishvili returned to politics in late 2023. Since then, he has occasionally spoken at ruling party events and given interviews, but periodically addresses citizens with written statements.
