Increased state fees for residence permits will come into effect in Finland on 1 January

The Finnish Ministry of the Interior has issued a regulation on the increase of fees for processing immigration applications, including residence permits, which will apply to applications submitted from 1 January 2026.

According to the ministry, the increase will range from 50 to 250 euros and is related to the need to bring the fees closer to the actual costs of the Migration Service (Migri) for processing cases.

In particular, the fee for electronic filing for permanent residence permits will increase to 380 euros from 240 euros, and for paper filing to 600 euros from 350 euros. For a primary residence permit for adults, electronic filing will cost €750 instead of €530, paper filing will cost €800 instead of €580.

Filing an application for international protection remains free, but a fee of €53 is being introduced for processing an application for renewal of status on the basis of international protection.

The ministry attributed the increase in fees to the increased costs of processing applications amid a decrease in the number of applications due to the economic situation, as well as legislative changes that have increased the burden on Migri. The regulation is valid until 31 December 2026.
