Iran attacks: UAE authorities say fires at petrochemical facility after debris falls

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates said they are battling fires at a petrochemical facility caused by falling debris as Iran continues to launch air attacks on neighbouring Gulf states.

“Authorities are responding to multiple fires at a petrochemical plant in Borouj caused by falling debris after a successful interception by air defence systems,” the UAE media office said on April 5.

It added that operations at the Abu Dhabi facility were “immediately suspended while the damage was assessed” and that no casualties were reported.

The UAE Ministry of Defence had earlier said it was responding to missile and drone attacks.

Elsewhere in the country, an Iranian drone attack caused a fire in a storage tank belonging to Bahrain’s state-owned energy company, the company said in a statement on 5 April.

“Bapco Energies confirms that an incident occurred today at one of its storage facilities resulting in a tank fire as a result of an enemy Iranian drone attack,” the company said, without specifying the location of the fire, adding that the fire was “fully contained” and that “the situation is under control.”

No injuries were reported.

The joint United States-Israeli operation against Iran, which began on 28 February, has claimed the lives of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a significant number of other senior Iranian regime officials.

Iran’s military has attacked with missiles and drones not only Israel or US military installations in the region, but also many of its regional neighbours, which Tehran considers allies of the United States.
