Three people were hanged in Iran on the morning of 25 June on charges of spying for Israel, Reuters reports.
According to the authorities, the executed were recruited by the Mossad and, in particular, were involved in smuggling equipment, which was then used by Israeli intelligence services to assassinate high-ranking officials in Iran.
The BBC notes that two more people were executed on similar charges a few days ago. More than 700 people have been arrested in the past fortnight since the Iran-Israel war began on suspicion of links to Israel.
Israel attacked Iran on June 13, calling its goal the destruction of Iran’s nuclear programme and the assassination of key nuclear scientists and members of the military leadership. Iran responded by shelling Israeli territory. On 22 June, the territory of Iranian nuclear facilities was attacked by the US Air Force. On 24 June, hostilities ceased, Israel announced that it had achieved its goal, and Iran announced that it had successfully repelled the attacks.
