It was just a joke: woman threw away wedding rings after boyfriend’s botched prank

Behind the woman’s words, her 29-year-old partner invited her for a romantic yacht ride in the ocean. However, instead of the expected idyll, things quickly changed: the guy unexpectedly confessed to having an affair.

Just so you understand, he’s a comedian. He’s always making jokes about something, saying stupid things all the time. But never joked about our marriage, relationship or betrayal, ever. So all the things he said seemed to be pure truth,” the heroine said.

In a state of shock, anger and pain, the woman took out her wedding rings and threw them into the water. The guy’s reaction was instantaneous: first he froze, and then he started screaming, claiming that it was just a joke.

“He just froze at what he saw. But then he started shouting and saying that it was only a joke, a prank, and that he wasn’t serious. He also called me an idiot in a fit of anger,” the woman continues, adding that she later heard another insult in her address: ‘whore’.

In response, she did not hold back. She called him a “jerk” and a “dick”. And also accused that because of his jokes the couple lost a precious thing.

The woman admits she cried after the incident, regretting the lost jewellery:

‘I felt sorry for the discarded engagement ring. It was gorgeous. And yes, it’s true, I threw away engagement rings worth £8,000 (almost UAH439,000). At the time, I didn’t know which one of us was right. However, I apologised for my act and I don’t feel guilty,” she said.

Later it turned out that the guy really did have an affair on the side – it confirmed the truthfulness of his “joke”.

Under the woman’s post, an active discussion broke out. One of the users noted that under the influence of strong emotions “you can do a lot of things”, although he admitted: wedding rings for such a sum is really pathetic.

“I’m reading this and thinking: what is a joke? Because from this story it turns out that a bad joke, which was the gist of the truth, also cost a lot of money,” wrote another commenter.

Another user emphasised that such relationship jokes are always a bad idea. Others supported this opinion, calling the couple’s main problem “damn immaturity.”

“Just two things: don’t make jokes about relationships because it’s really stupid. And the second thing is to think with your head about what you’re doing. Otherwise you can get into trouble,” another panellist summarised.
