Kremlin says meeting between Zelensky and Putin unlikely before end of August

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin before the end of August is unlikely.

“You and I live in such a time when it is impossible to say that something will definitely not happen. But given the amount of work to be done in order to bring positions closer together, for us to secure our interests, it is hard to imagine how this distance can be leapfrogged,” Peskov said in response to questions from reporters.

A face-to-face meeting between Zelensky and Putin was requested by the Ukrainian side at the Ukraine-Russia talks in Istanbul on Wednesday. According to the proposal, the meeting was to be held in the presence of US and Turkish presidents Donald Trump and Recep Erdogan.
