Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that the initiative to involve the North Korean military in the fighting in Kursk Region was from Pyongyang. Moscow, he said, accepted the proposal as a “sincere manifestation of solidarity.”
“We did not have any reason to refuse a sincere show of solidarity. We proceed from the fact that the DPRK itself determines the forms in which it implements our treaty on strategic partnership,” Lavrov said after talks with North Korean Foreign Minister Choi Son-hee in Wonsan.
The North Korean minister responded by assuring that Pyongyang unconditionally supports Russia’s actions.
“We are ready to consistently fulfil all provisions of the interstate treaty,” she said.
After the meeting with the DPRK Foreign Minister, Lavrov met with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
