Lukashenko visits the DPRK for the first time

Alexander Lukashenko will visit North Korea on 25-26 March, according to his website. According to Lukashenka’s website, the visit will take place at the invitation of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Lukashenko’s visit was also confirmed without any other details by the Korean Central Telegraphic Agency, Reuters reported.

Lukashenko will be visiting Pyongyang for the first time. He has already met Kim Jong-un in September 2025 in China.

On 17 January 2025, at a meeting on foreign trade, Alexander Lukashenko said that “about five states, including Pakistan, Indonesia and the DPRK, have sent Belarus their proposals on organising summit meetings to discuss cooperation”.

Only a few days later, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s younger sister, Kim Yo-jong, noted that Belarus had not received such a proposal from Pyongyang.

Last year, congratulating North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on the DPRK’s Founding Day, Lukashenko noted that “the whole world is watching” as the DPRK “proudly walks the path of independent development.”

Minsk and Pyongyang, according to Lukashenka, “have quickly made significant progress in establishing practical cooperation in such areas as agriculture, medicine and pharmaceuticals, and education.”
