Microsoft has announced a major update for Windows 11, including three new artificial intelligence features for Copilot+ devices. One of the key new features is Recall, which runs in the background, periodically saving encrypted screenshots to the device’s local storage. Users can search for information by keyword, date and app, while the system offers flexible privacy settings including Windows Hello authentication and the ability to control data storage.
The updated Windows Search now uses a compact language model running directly on the device’s neural processing unit (NPU). This enables natural language search without the need to remember exact file names. Microsoft says the new search engine is 70 per cent faster than Windows 10, but it requires an NPU with a performance of more than 40 TOPS.
Click to Do offers contextual capabilities for text summarisation, translation and image editing, among other things. For now, the full functionality is only available on devices with Snapdragon processors, but support for AMD Ryzen AI 300 and Intel Core Ultra 200V will be added later.
