No signs of preparation for restart of Zaporizhzhya NPP – IAEA representative

There is currently no indication that Russia is preparing to restart the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant it has occupied, a spokesman for the International Atomic Energy Agency said on 29 May on condition of anonymity. Western agencies Reuters and Associated Press quoted him as saying.

“I can say that our teams continue to confirm that there is no indication at this point that there will now be any active preparations to restart the power plant,” the official said.

Meanwhile, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said on 29 May that the situation with external power supply at ZNPP remains extremely precarious, as Europe’s largest such facility still relies on only one power line compared to ten before the full-scale Russian invasion. He did not comment on the Greenpeace report.

The IAEA chief will visit Ukraine and Russia next week as part of his regular contacts with the parties, the agency’s press office said.

Zaporizhzhya NPP is Europe’s largest nuclear power plant.
