PepsiCo launches first ever prebiotic cola in the traditional cola category

The new product is in line with the current trend for healthier drinks, combining traditional flavour with benefits for the body.

Pepsi Prebiotic Cola contains 5 grams of cane sugar, 30 calories per serving, 3 grams of prebiotic fibre, and no artificial sweeteners.

PepsiCo says the drink retains the familiar refreshing flavour of classic Pepsi, but now has added functionality thanks to prebiotics.

When to expect it on the market?

The new drink will be available in standard 355ml cans. Online sales will start in autumn 2025, and in retail shops in early 2026.

Competition and trends

This announcement comes against the backdrop of global changes in the food industry. Earlier, PepsiCo has already reduced the sugar content in its drinks by 35-40%, replacing it with artificial sweeteners.

At the same time, rival Coca-Cola is also under pressure. Donald Trump has announced alleged agreements to bring “real cane sugar” back into Coca-Cola’s warehouse, although the company has not officially confirmed this.

These initiatives are part of a broader movement to reduce artificial additives and excessive sugar.

Experts believe that the switch to natural ingredients will have a positive impact on consumer health, although it may carry some economic risks for the industry.
