Poland demands from Belarus to extradite two saboteurs involved in the explosion on the railway

On 20 November, the Charge d’Affaires of Belarus in Warsaw received a note requesting the extradition of two Ukrainian citizens suspected of sabotage organized by Russia, a representative of the Polish Foreign Ministry told the state news agency PAP.

On 18 November, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the sabotage on the Polish railway was committed by Ukrainian citizens in the interests of Russian security services, who then left the country through the Terespol checkpoint on their way to Belarus.

Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski told reporters that Warsaw would demand Minsk to extradite the suspects.

Two incidents on the railway occurred in Poland on 15 and 17 November. First, it became known about the malfunction of the railway infrastructure near the village of Zychin, in Mazowieckie Voivodeship, on the Lublin direction. The explosion damaged the tracks and another explosive device was found nearby, which did not go off, Polish media reported.

The second explosion took place near the town of Pulawy, in Lublin province, where a railway contact line was damaged.

The next day, Polish prosecutors filed charges of committing terrorist sabotage on behalf of Russia. The suspects are 39-year-old Alexander K. and 41-year-old Yevgeny i.

The men are charged with espionage, which includes sabotage in the interests of foreign intelligence services, endangering a land transport disaster and using explosives. They face life in prison.

Several other people have been detained in the sabotage case, but have not yet been charged.
