Russia: FSB says blast caused damage to railway in Voronezh region

More than 20 passenger trains were stopped in the south of the Voronezh region due to damage on the railway tracks, which the FSB later said was caused by an explosion.

Authorities in the region initially claimed “minor damage to the trackbed”, which would be noticed by a driver. This was reported by Governor Alexander Gusev and the press service of the South-Eastern Railway.

Subsequently, the FSB Public Relations Centre said that the canvas had allegedly been blown up.

According to the latest data, more than 20 trains are delayed en route, in particular, to and from Crimea.

Earlier, Baza, a telegram channel close to the law enforcement agencies, and several other Russian media outlets said that the tracks had been damaged by an explosion. The exact location is given as 725 kilometre of the Evdakovo-Saguny railway line. It is claimed that the driver of one of the trains noticed the damage to the tracks in time, which prevented the wagons from derailing.

The Yevdakovo-Saguny crossing is located south of the Liski junction station, on the main railway linking Moscow and southern Russia.

Major telegram channels, notably EZH and SHOT, claimed that explosive devices had also been found on the railway line. This information has not been confirmed.
