Russia has launched legal proceedings against Apple over its refusal to install Makh and RuStore

The Russian Federal Antimonopoly Service has announced that it has opened an investigation into the US company Apple.

The regulator’s statement says that it had previously issued a warning to Apple “regarding the need to remove discriminatory conditions for Russian search engines and to comply with the requirements to install domestic software on iOS devices”.

It is claimed that Apple has partially complied with the requirements – the updated version of the software “includes the option to pre-install a Russian search engine”. However, the requirement to install Russian apps has not been met.

“The company has failed to comply with the FAS Russia’s warning regarding the pre-installation on devices running the iOS operating system (iPhone, iPad) of the National Messenger and a domestic app store,” the press service’s statement reads.

As noted by ‘Ostorozhno, Novosti’, Apple has ceased official sales of its devices in Russia since 2022 and has stopped supplying them to the country. The American company’s devices are now sold in Russia only through the grey market.
