Russia says that drones again attacked two Russian oil refineries on the night of 28 August – the Afipsky refinery in Krasnodar Krai and the Kuibyshev refinery in Samara Oblast.
These refineries have already been attacked by drones, Afipsky earlier this month.
The Kuban operative headquarters reported that one of the refinery’s units burst into flames in the village of Afipsky due to falling debris. Twenty-one people and eight units of equipment are involved in extinguishing the 20 square metre fire.
Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev wrote only about the drone attack, without specifying which objects were targeted. According to the Astra telegram channel, the Kuibyshev refinery in Samara is on fire as a result of the strike.
Also in the Samara region, authorities reported a drone attack. It is claimed that a drone fell near the Kryazh railway station, six passenger trains and four commuter trains are delayed, three commuter trains have been cancelled.
The Russian Defence Ministry said it had neutralised an alleged 102 Ukrainian drones.
The commander of the AFU’s Unmanned Systems Force, Robert Brovdi (call sign “Magyar”), confirmed the strikes on two oil refineries in his Telegram channel.
At least eight refineries in Russia have been hit by drone strikes since the beginning of August. The AFU General Staff confirmed most of the attacks, saying that the Ukrainian Defence Forces are “systematically implementing measures aimed at reducing the combat potential of the Russian occupation forces, as well as forcing the Russian Federation to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine.”
Since the beginning of 2024, Russian refineries have been regularly attacked by Ukrainian drones. At some refineries, primary oil refining units failed and required repairs.
The AFU General Staff from time to time confirms strikes on facilities in the Russian Federation involved in supplying the Russian army and notes that such strikes will continue.
