Russia’s trade mission in Sweden was attacked by a drone on the night of 17 June, the Russian embassy in the Scandinavian country said. A drone flew over the territory of the representative office and dropped a bag of paint in front of the central entrance.
The embassy said the trade mission is part of the Russian diplomatic mission in Sweden and is subject to immunities and privileges under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
“The aforementioned attack extended a series of similar recent attacks on the premises of the Russian diplomatic mission in Sweden, which threaten the safety of its staff and damage the property of the representation,” the diplomats said in a statement, saying the Swedish authorities had “failed to comply with their international legal obligations.”
Swedish authorities have not yet commented on the Russian embassy’s statement.
The Russian diplomatic mission reported a similar attack at the end of May. On the night of 25 May, a drone dropped a glass container with paint on the territory of the Russian Embassy in Stockholm. At the time, Russian diplomats complained that “such attacks have been occurring regularly for more than a year now”.
