The data of more than 16 million Kazakhstani citizens (the entire population of the country, including minors, is less than 19 million) appeared on the web. The country’s National Security Committee has launched an investigation, Azattyk Asia reported.
The data leak was reported by the Telegram channel SecuriXy, which specialises in information security. According to the analysis of the channel’s authors, the leaked file contains more than 15.8 million unique individual identification numbers (IINs), almost 17 million unique phone numbers, as well as names, birth dates, citizenship information and addresses.
Most of the records, it notes, were added to the document after 2011, with more than two million records added in 2022, another million in 2023, and more than 167,000 in 2024. “Data for 2023-2024 are available, indicating the relevance of the leak,” the Telegram channel said in a statement.
The Centre for Analysis and Investigation of Cyberattacks (TSARKA) confirmed that 16.3 million records with personal data of Kazakhstanis appeared in the Network. It has not yet been established where the leak came from.
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry said it is studying the information about the leak. The ministry assured that “no hacker attacks or leaks of personal data from state information systems have been recorded yet”.
