This was found out by researchers from Binghamton University. Earlier we wrote what simple habits will help you sleep even after a hard day.
Professor Lina Begdache explains it with a simple example: if a person is late for the plane, he can either give in to emotions, or calmly assess the situation and look for a way out. It is the ability to control reactions that is the manifestation of psychological flexibility.
As part of the study, scientists interviewed about 400 students about their lifestyle. It turned out that those who sleep less than six hours are significantly worse at coping with stress. Instead, students who ate breakfast at least five times a week and exercised for at least 20 minutes showed better resilience to difficulties. Additionally, the consumption of fish oil has a positive effect.
At the same time, frequent consumption of fast food and chronic sleep deprivation negatively affect the ability to think flexibly and make decisions under stressful conditions.
According to the researcher, during times of high stress, people often “merge” with their emotions. Instead, psychological flexibility allows them to distance themselves, analyse the situation and find an effective solution.
The main conclusion of scientists is that healthy habits alone do not eliminate stress, but provide the brain with the necessary resources. It is this that helps to develop flexibility of thinking and more easily experience difficult life periods.
Recall, earlier we wrote how to understand that in front of you is a confident woman. This will become known from the environment.
