Slovenia has decided to join the PURL initiative to buy US weapons for Ukraine at the expense of NATO allies. This was announced by Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob at a joint press conference with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Ljubljana.
“I cannot disclose the amount because it is classified. I don’t have the authority to declassify it now, but it is foreseen in the 2025 budget of the Defence Ministry, so it is not an additional expense,” the prime minister said.
He said the aid package focuses on air defence to protect energy and civil infrastructure.”
“For quite some time now, Slovenia has been sending Ukraine exclusively defence equipment, and this applies to this package as well,” Golob added.
On 14 July, the US and NATO concluded the PURL (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List) agreement, which provides for sending US weapons to Ukraine at the expense of European countries, NATO coordinates the process.
According to the Alliance Secretary General Mark Rutte, in the first months after the launch of the PURL project, more than 2 billion euros were collected. First of all, these funds are used to purchase weapons and ammunition that European arms manufacturers do not produce. These include air defence systems.
