Starmer accuses Iran of trying to harm British Jews

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on 30 April accused Iran of trying to “harm British Jews.”

“We need stronger powers to tackle the sinister threat from countries like Iran because we know they want to harm British Jews,” he said, according to a statement from the British Prime Minister’s office.

His remarks came a day after a man attacked two Jews with a knife on a street in North London.

Starmer has previously said Iran was trying to persecute British Jews.

In late February, he warned that the Iranian regime posed a direct threat to the Jewish community in Britain. He reiterated these concerns in mid-April about the use of malicious state proxies against Jewish targets.

Starmer did not provide further details in his 30 April statement about how Iran was trying to harm Jews or whether Iran was linked to the knife attack in North London.

Attacks on Jews in Britain have increased since the beginning of the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran.
