The number of casualties from Iranian strikes on southern Israel has risen to 200

In the Israeli towns of Arad and Dimona, located in the south of the country, about 200 people were injured as a result of rocket attacks from Iran, 11 of them are in serious condition, The Times of Israel reports.

According to reporters, the most seriously injured were people who were not in shelters.

In Dimona, among the injured is a 12-year-old boy who has shrapnel wounds. The boy’s mother told Kahn Broadcasting Company that her son did not make it to the bomb shelter in time.

Iranian state agencies said the strikes hit an Israeli nuclear research centre about 10 kilometres from Dimona and 30 kilometres from Arad in response to an attack on a uranium enrichment centre in Natang.

Earlier this week, the US struck a uranium enrichment plant in Natang. Iran believes the strike was carried out with the involvement of the Israeli military, but Israel denies involvement in the attack.

The Shimon Peres Nuclear Research Centre near Dimona (in the Negev Desert in southern Israel) plays a key role in Israel’s nuclear weapons programme, the existence of which Jerusalem neither confirms nor denies.
